VHAT Board of Directors
Our Board members helped create Vermont Horse-Assisted Therapy, Inc. and continue to sustain its mission, which is to improve the minds, bodies, and spirits of children and adults through the use of the horse in therapy.
Steven Slatter
Stephen Slatter is the first President of the VHAT Board of Directors. He owns the Slatter Park Bench Company and the Vermont Iron Stove Company, and is our hero when it comes to turning a dream into reality. Steve made the tall mounting block in our arena, as well as our nice bleachers. He fixes cavalletti, helps with fencing, and even climbs on the tractor with the front loader now and again. But it is his business skills and creative thinking that have most helped VHAT to become a more professional organization. He and his wife Sarah live at 355 Henning Rd, Montpelier, VT 05602.
Susan Mitchell
Susan Mitchell is Secretary of the VHAT Board of Directors. She is a Level 1 Centered Riding Instructor, a member of the Vermont Horse Council and the barn manager at Pease Farm Stable. She also has a B.A. in Elementary Education. Susan's enthusiasm and people-skills make her the perfect representative for welcoming new clients to VHAT. Her expertise with horses and experience with all the details of barn management have been essential as Pease Farm hosts the new VHAT activities. She rescued her Appaloosa mare, Rumor Has It, from a PMU farm at the age of four months and has done all her training, helping Rumor become a popular school horse for VHAT and Pease Farm clients. She lives at the farm, 307 Culver Hill Rd, Middlesex, VT 05602.
Chrissy Rohan
Chrissy Rohan is Vice President of the VHAT Board of Directors. She has a B.S in education and an M. Ed in special education, competed on the "A" circuit in Vermont, ran her own hunter/jumper barn and now serves as a part-time instructor at Pease Farm while she and her husband raise their daughter and six-year-old twins. She's worked as an instructor and trainer for over 25 years with horses and riders at all levels. Chrissy is not just a competent teacher, she's a competent person, well organized, clear-headed and thoughtful, and has brought VHAT new ideas and avenues for development. She and her husband live at 1 Chapman Rd, Montpelier, VT 05602.
Sarah Slatter
Sarah Slatter, Steve's wife, is Treasurer of the VHAT Board of Directors. She's a Senior Vice President in the Loan Review Department of People's United Bank in Burlington, VT, and started riding a couple years ago after watching how much their daughter, Melanie, enjoyed the sport. Mel's pony Bailey, a Quarter horse cross, and Sarah's big chestnut Belgian/Morgan cross (with fancy white stockings) share a paddock and pasture at Pease Farm. Sarah's willingness to share her knowledge of finance has helped VHAT develops the appropriate and necessary bookkeeping and accounting practices for a non-profit organization.
Toni Clithero
Toni Clithero is the fifth member of the VHAT Board of Directors, and works as an attorney in the Vermont Attorney General's Office, Montpelier, VT. She's a long-time horse lover, and she, her husband, and their four girls have four horses at home. Toni's caring nature and her legal skills have both been of value to VHAT as the organization grows; she's helped do outreach to area schools and is our Blogmaster as well. She lives at 11 Hults Rd., Worcester, VT 05682.
Sarah Seidman
Sarah Seidman is the owner/operator of Pease Farm Stable LLC, a riding stable in Middlesex, VT. It's been in business since 1994, offering Centered Ridingâ lessons for students of all ages, as well as boarding, training, summer camps and weekend clinics. Pease Farm also has its own 4-H club, Pease Farm Pony Pals. She is a Level 3 Centered Riding instructor and a NARHA certified registered instructor, and helped start VHAT in order to extend the benefits of horse-assisted therapy to a greater range of students in the central Vermont area. She and her husband Scott Harrower live just down the road from the farm with their Aussie, Cinco, who considers himself the true overseer of all Pease Farm and VHAT activities.
